Fractious Cats

  • Set the cat up for success but using low, calm tones and keeping them away from loud and sudden noises

  • It is important to note that nervous or fractious cats should be handled in a room where they cannot escape, quietly and calmly

  • Make sure all treatment doors are CLOSED - exam room doors, kennel doors, outside doors, isolation door, storage door

  • If the cat can be examined in their carrier with the top off, do so

  • Have towels handy, fearful cats like to hide and will do well inside a blanket wrap if applicable

  • If cat is still unable to be successfully restrained with a towel or examined in the carrier, the net should be used for the remainder of the exam

  • If there are things you cannot complete while the cat is inside the net, drugs may be prescribed and the cat can come back in a couple of days
