Abscess Treatment

Most abscess treatments must be done while the animal is fully sedated - the procedure can be painful and uncomfortable for the pet

If an abscess is already ruptured, you may attempt to flush the wound and treat while the pet is awake, watching for signs of discomfort

Abscesses should be flushed with a mixture of Povidone Iodine solution and warm water. This is mostly water with a splash of iodine - you should still be able to see the bottom of the bowl or see through the syringe with the iodine in it
