Vaccine Protocols
Below, you will find the vaccine protocols for dogs and cats. This is the same chart that's on the fridge in treatment.
All vaccine syringes must be labeled with their corresponding stickers so the doctors and team know what is in each syringe
All serial/lot numbers and exp dates should be entered in the notes of each vaccine, aside from Rabies which is changed in system tables
Vaccines drawn up to be given should be placed in the corresponding room tray, located near the microscope.
Vaccines should be given in the exam room with the client present as long as the pet permits.
CANINE VACCINE PROTOCOLS
1ST PUPPY (6 weeks): DA2PP
2nd PUPPY (9 weeks): DA2PP-CVK, Bordetella, Flea/Tick & Heartworm prevention
3rd PUPPY (12 weeks): DHLPP-CVK
4th PUPPY (15 weeks): Rabies, DHLPP, +/- Influenza (lifestyle – do they board, go to PetSmart or dog parks, get groomed?)
If the dog is over 4 months (16 weeks) old when they begin vaccines, they only receive 2 DHLPP with no CVK.
Annuals:
Rabies, DHLPP/DA2PP, Bordetella, +/- Influenza
Exceptions:
· Weimaraners always receive the Recombitek DAPP+L4 vaccine
· Any dog that has had reactions to leptospirosis vaccines only receives DA2PP
· Premedicate any dog with a previous vaccine reaction with diphenhydramine
FELINE VACCINE PROTOCOLS
*Always offer combo test on first visit (after 6 weeks) *
1ST KITTEN (9 weeks): FVRCP, offer combo test, Revolution
2nd KITTEN (12 weeks): FVRCP, +/- FELV (if cat goes outside)
3rd KITTEN (15 weeks): Rabies, FVRCP, +/- FELV (if cat goes outside)
Annuals:
Rabies, FVRCP, +/- FELV (if cat goes outside)
