Cleaning Surgical Packs

  • Surgical packs should be cleaned with diluted Dawn dish soap

  • Scrub each instrument with the copper bristle brush, kept on the wet table

  • Inspect all gauze that appears to be unused, place in a gauze container for treatment use

  • Discard all used gauze, cotton swabs and drape

  • Scrub and rinse out glass dish that holds the instruments

  • Inspect each instrument during cleaning for cracks and tape-n-tell issues - notify Practice Manager if a reorder is necessary, or replace tape-n-tell with appropriate color

  • After rinsing, spray each instrument generously with instrument lube (spray bottle kept under the sink on the wet table) at the joints
