Sedation Protocols

McDonough Animal Hospital seeks to handle each patient with care and respect, and will not hesitate to use chemical restraint when the safety of the team or pet is in jeopardy

If a pet requires more than 2 people to successfully handle the pet safely, sedation may be indicated

If a pet is vocalizing to the point of panic, or the assistants handling the pet feel the patient is becoming overly excited or anxious, sedation may be indicated

If a pet is struggling and is going to cause injury to themselves or others as a result, sedation may be indicated

We will not sedate a pet outside of euthanasia after 4pm. If the matter is urgent, they should be referred to an emergency facility. If the matter is not urgent, they can come back in the morning to drop off for sedation.
