Heat Stroke Patients

  • When a pet is recognized as heat stroke, the pet should be immediately brought into treatment and placed on the wet table

  • Take a TPR

  • If the temperature is above 103 degrees F, run cold water over pet until temperature comes down

  • When the temperature reaches 103 degrees F, discontinue water and begin to dry pet off

  • Another assistant should draw up a preliminary estimate with a Routine Visit, Emergency fee, IV Catheterization, Fluids and Hospitalization fee to present to owner - get permission to begin and a signed estimate for treatment

  • DVM will complete exam on the pet and determine next steps
